Shine like stars forever

"'Men and women who have lived wisely and well will shine brilliantly, like the cloudless, star-strewn night skies. And those who put others on the right path to life will glow like stars forever" Daniel 12: 3 ( The Message Bible)

I came across this Bible verse this morning. As parents the pride level within us seems to rise when our children are sports or music stars. But an injury can hinder or stop the sports star. Music stars can be drawn into the music of this world instead of music of praise and worship to our Maker and Creator. As parents our goal is to guide our children to be stars that will shine forever. Our children need role models. They do not need the role models of Hollywood who often experience broken families and broken lives. Our children need role models who put others on the right path to life.

In the Bible we see these role models in people such as Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Caleb, Ruth, Daniel, Jesus, Peter, Paul, and John. From the centuries since Jesus and the apostles we see these bright stars in many people who showed the way to righteousness.

In the S.V.H.E. library we have many books that contain the biographies of these great men and women. Sam Wellman has written biographies of Amy Carmichael, Billy Graham, Corrie Ten Boom, C.S. Lewis, David Livingstone, Francis & Edith Schaeffer, Gladys Aylward, John Bunyan, John Calvin, John Wesley, Mary Slessor, and William Carey. Other authors have written biographies of Samuel Morris, Jim Elliot, John & Betty Stam, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Brother Andrew, George Mueller, Susanna Wesley, Jonathan Edwards, William & Catherine Booth, Jonathan Goforth, William Tyndale, George Whitefield, William Wilberforce, Hudson Taylor, Eric Liddell, Charles Spurgeon, Martin Luther, and John Wycliffe. This list does not end. We have the Ten Boys and Ten Girls Series by Irene Howat. With a short visit to the S.V.H.E. library you should easily find a story or biography of a bright shining star that will burn forever.
